MISSION
To ensure the future success of our company and communities through:
~ The sustainable stewardship of our natural resources.
~ The efficient manufacturing of wood products.
Neiman Enterprises' sawmills are primary and secondary manufacturing facilities. In the process of producing lumber we recognize the importance of being environmentally considerate, being mindful of the economy, and thoughtful of our employees and their families, which make up the communities in which we operate. The manner in which we operate is important to us, as well as the end users of our lumber. Environmental stewardship is made possible through our trained and committed staff. Learn more about the family history and sawmill history.
Community Support: James S. Neiman, founder of Neiman Enterprises, is a supporter of the local schools, numerous community functions, and he loves children. He is often found with a pickup full of stuffed animals that he hands out to children. Hey kids, you can learn more about lumber, try checking out the Slice A Tree for History.
Multiple Use and Sustainability: Our family owned business is dependent upon wise use and sustainability of our renewable natural resources. Best Management Practices are part of the harvesting process and are addressed with contracting landowners as part of the contracting process. Learn more about the Sustainable Forest Initiative and Best Management Practices.
LOG - ON: - Our sawmill utilizes 100 percent of the logs brought to our operation sites. Neiman sawmills produce approximately 460 thousand board feet of lumber every day. Lumber makes up approximately 60 percent of every log. The remaining 40 percent is considered by-products. Of that 40 percent, 15 percent goes to landscape bark; 10 - 15 percent becomes shavings and is utilized primarily as livestock bedding. The remaining 20 - 25 percent of our byproducts is sawdust and is used as boiler fuel. The boiler fuel is burned in a 'hog' and is burned to heat water, which heats the drying kilns, and heats the sawmill. The boiler fuel first goes through a hog where it is ground into smaller particles. The fuel is burned in a large fire place with a water tank that sits over the fire. Through computer operations, the steam from the heated water is piped into the drying kilns. The drying kilns dry the cut lumber. Boiler fuel is also burned to heat the sawmill. Byproducts can amount to 200 loads each week. Learn more: How much tree do you need?
Environmentally Conscious: We demonstrate our commitment to the sustainabilty of our national, private, and public forests, by voluntarily participating in the American Forest and Paper Association and the Timber Industry Association. Neiman Enterprises also strongly supports Project Learning Tree, a nationally recognized environmental education curriculum. Learn more about Project Learning Tree by visiting Teacher Information.
Energy use is equally important and thus, we have incorporated the use of our sawdust mixed with bark to make boiler fuel. The boiler fuel is used to generate the power needed to operate the kilns. The kilns dry the lumber and also heat the sawmill during winter months. The boiler ash is then mixed with soil and is used as mulch.
